Our Commitment

This School is committed to providing an environment for the delivery of quality teaching and learning by:

  • Promoting the rights and safety of all learners and teachers.
  • Ensuring learners’ responsibility for their own actions and behaviour.
  • Prohibiting all forms of unfair discrimination and intolerance.
  • Eliminating disruptive and offensive conduct.

The Code of Conduct applies to all learners while they are on school premises, at school functions, or representing the school externally. In accordance with Section 8(4) of the South African Schools Act, all learners are bound by this Code and are expected to sign a statement of commitment to it.

Academic Expectations

Every learner is expected to achieve their full academic potential while respecting the rights of others and their educators.

Behaviour Guidelines

  • Always use polite, respectful language and gestures—free from sarcasm, aggression, or bullying.
  • Physical contact between learners or between learners and teachers is prohibited.
  • No weapons, including knives or replicas, are allowed.
  • Respect school and personal property; do not waste resources or damage belongings.
  • Do not leave the school grounds without permission from both the principal and parents.
  • No dishonesty—cheating, copying, or plagiarism is not tolerated.
  • No smoking, drugs, or alcohol on school property.
  • Chewing gum and eating during lessons is not allowed.
  • Students are encouraged to use diaries daily to stay organized and accountable.

Electronic Devices

  • Cell phones must be handed in at registration and returned after school.
  • No music or gaming devices allowed during the academic day.
  • Laptops/tablets permitted for academic purposes with teacher approval.

Uniform Policy

General Conduct

  • Full-day attendance is mandatory unless absence is approved by the principal and parent.
  • All staff instructions must be followed respectfully.
  • Do not endanger or harm others physically or emotionally.
  • No weapons, drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, or inappropriate materials allowed.
  • Respect and care for school property at all times.
  • Do not bring disrepute to the school in any form.
  • No bullying, fighting, teasing, or harassment is tolerated.
  • The school reserves the right to conduct drug tests and searches as per DOE regulations.

Disciplinary Procedures

Keurbosch School reserves the right to request that parents withdraw a learner who repeatedly breaks rules or behaves disruptively. Parents and learners must sign the Code of Conduct—however, not signing does not exempt one from its rules.

Corrective steps before suspension or expulsion may include:

  • Verbal warning or reprimand
  • Written warning or detention
  • Final written warning
  • Parent meeting
  • Formal disciplinary hearing

Grounds for Suspension or Expulsion

  • Violence or violation of others’ rights
  • Any criminal behavior
  • Vandalism or destruction of property
  • Verbal abuse or disrespect toward staff or peers
  • Defiance of authority
  • Graffiti, hate speech, racism
  • Sexual misconduct
  • Profanity or immoral behavior
  • Possession or use of intoxicants or narcotics
  • Possession of weapons
  • Academic dishonesty
  • Repeat violations over a 6-month period

Immediate expulsion may result from serious offenses such as:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Possession of pornographic material
  • Fighting
  • Illegal substance possession (e.g., vapes, cigarettes, drugs)
  • Weapons on campus
  • Testing positive for narcotics (e.g., marijuana)
